What our young adult readers think of ‘The Rest of us just live here’ by Patrick Ness

‘I was very impressed how he wrote a book with no real outlined story. It was more about the journey the characters made and I really enjoyed it’  9/10

‘I thought the book had a very good descriptive plot and a very interesting and curious subplot. I thought the link between the mortal world and the world of the immortals was portrayed very well using the type of language that was in the book. The relationship between Mikey and Henna was a curious but yet touching one’  9/10

‘I thoughrest of ust this book was incredible. The narrative was very true to life, I felt as if the characters were real people rather than characters in a story. The protagonist  was very honest, something that is rare in books I have read previously. By this I mean that the character told us about all aspects of life, not just the ‘Hollywood’ version. ‘

‘I liked the overall plot of the book, especially loved how it was written through a teenagers perspective. I found the characters very relatable and felt as though you were getting a deep insight into their inner thoughts. This kept me keen to keep reading and made me curious as to what was going to happen next’

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the crazy plot and the manner in which it was revealed to us. The main character was interesting and very human. The layout of the book, the parallel stories, was a new take on a story for me. The language of the story and characters was fluid and easy to follow. That doesn’t mean simple or childish but that it flowed and made the story continuous. I read a description of a different book once described as ‘insomnia inducing’ and that applies to this book as well.’  10/10
